Wapakoneta Family YMCA Program Descriptions


Members enjoy most Group Aerobic classes free of charge!  If there is a different charge for the class it will be marked.  Access Members pay $45 for classes meeting one time per week, $75 for two times per week, and $85 for classes three times per week. 

Barre Fitness – Barre Fitness is a targeted, full-body workout performed at the ballet barre creating long lean muscles and improved posture.  Interval training at the barre and on the mat uses small controlled movements and your own body weight to work every major muscle group.  Active stretching to increased flexibility and elongate muscle follows each exercise.

Body Sculpt – This class utilizes weights, bands & body bars to keep your body at its peak performance.

Cardio Dance – This is a fun way to get your heart pumping and muscles working through various forms of dance to a wide range of music.  No dance experience necessary!

** Group Core– Trains you like an athlete in 30 action packed minutes.  A strong core, from your shoulders to your hips, will improve your athletic performance, help prevent back pain and help strengthen your abs.  Expert coaching and motivating music will guide you through functional and integrated exercises using your body weight, weight plates, a towel and a platform – all to challenge you like never before. 

** Pay $5.00 for each session.

Cross Training – Looking to increase your fitness levels?  This class is great for the beginner to the advanced. Class will consist of bodyweight, endurance and weight training exercises, movement during class can be modified to fit all levels.

Circuit Training-This workout will get your heart rate up and strengthen your muscles at the same times. You'll quickly move through 6 or more exercise station to work different muscles groups.  Be ready to sweat and have fun!

Cycle and Core – Join us for 30-minutes on the bike followed by 10 minutes of core strengthening exercises.

Enhance Fitness – Join us for a proven fitness and arthritis management program that has been recognized by the CDC and other national organizations committed to improving the health of older adults.  This program improves your endurance, strength, balance and flexibility.  It reduces your arthritis symptoms with safe, low impact exercises led by certified instructors in a relaxed atmosphere that promotes fun, laughter, friendship and smiles.  FREE for Members, ACCESS MEMBERS pay $160.00 for a 16 week program.  We can set you up to draft $40.00/month for four months from your checking, savings or credit card.  See front desk for more information.

Group Cycling – An instructor will lead you through the proper progression of exercise intensity, but you control the amount of resistance appropriate for your fitness level.  Group Cycling classes are limited to 12 participants. 

Hatha Yoga  – Exercises that promote breathing, stretching, endurance, relaxation, visualization, balance, increased energy and more.

Kids Yoga

This fun class will meet once a week for 45 mins and will teach children yoga through games, songs, imaginative play and storytelling. Helping children to focus on fine and gross motor skills, sensory and social skill along with encouraging parent and child bonding.  Parents are invited to join in or are free to drop child off for class. Class will have a variety of themes such as "Ocean Day" where we will be doing poses based on ocean creatures.  "Safari Day" where we will pack a picnic and go on an imaginary walk through the jungle and enjoy our picnic which will be a healthy complimentary snack provided to the class. Of course, there will be a Hero and Princess day and much, much more.  You don't want to miss out on this FUN class.

Pilates – Try this series of mat exercises which are designed to improve muscle strength and flexibility, balance, posture, and overall well-being. 

Pi-Yo  –  This class combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility of Yoga.  The speed is cranked up to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that will make you feel empowered and energized!

Power Yoga- A rigorous workout that develops strength, flexibility, and helps create a lean, total body while keeping students on the move. It combines a series of flowing postures with rhythmic breathing for an intense body-mind workout. Power yoga is directed at creating the highest level of energy, vitality and freedom. 

Prime Time Fitness – Class includes strength, cardio, flexibility and balance exercises.  Targeted toward men and women 55 years and older.

REBOOT-This class is designed with a focus on general fitness improvement and increase flexibility/mobility. Designed for various fitness levels and can easily be modified for your level.  This class is perfect for those looking for a shorter duration intense workout with the equal in duration stretching/mobility recover work.

Senior Quickfit – This class consist of cardiovascular and strength training exercise designed to gain stamina, build lean muscle mass, while increasing balance and flexibility.  This is a circuit style class targeted towards seniors that will only last 30 minutes.  This class will have you working your entire body head to toe!

SilverSneakers Circuit – This class combines fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout.  Upper body strength work is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation.

SilverSneakers Classic – This class will have you move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living.  A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support.

SilverSneakers Yoga – Designed for all fitness levels and focuses on poses and postures to improve breathing, flexibility, balance, muscular strength and endurance and joint range of movement.

SUNRISE YOGA-Rise and shine! In this class we will open our mind and body to a new day with an energizing yet mindful yoga practice including strength, flexibility and balance.  This class will meet outside weather permitting or in our Tranquility Room if inclement weather.

** Group Power – The Class you pick, the experience you remember!  This class will blast all your muscles with a high-rep weight training workout.  Using an adjustable barbell, weight plates and body weight, this workout combines squats, lunges, presses and curls with functional integrated exercises.  Dynamic music and a motivating group atmosphere will get your heart rate up, make you sweat and push you to a personal best.          

** Pay $10.00 for the first class and $5.00 for each additional class for the session.

Aqua Aerobics – Work on cardiovascular endurance at a moderate pace utilizing pool noodles, water weights, balls, and simply your own body.

Aqua Cardio – This is a highly energetic class taught in shallow waters.  In this class we will incorporate barre fitness, cardio, kickboxing and good ol’fashion fun.  We will utilize pool noodles, kick boards, weights and the natural resistance of the water.  Come with a smile and leave with a workout!

Aqua Flex & Flow – This class is designed to challenge you with emphasis on improving cardiovascular fitness and endurance with low-impact on the joints.

Deep Water Fitness-This deep water class will incorporate a balanced workout that includes a warm-up, aerobic training and a cool down. Participants will enjoy burning calories with cardio and strengthening muscles without impact of body weight.  By suspending the body in deep water, the body has a greater range of motion with fewer limitation.

Intro to Swim Lessons:  Fee:  $28.00/Members, $54.00/Access Members

Each class is limited to 8.  Ages 6 months – 3 years of age.

Water Discovery – A    This class introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.

Water Discovery – B  This class focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Safety Around the Water – Drowning Prevention:  Fee:  $28.00/Members, $54.00/Access Members

Each class is limited to 6.  Ages 3 years and up.

A large percentage of children drown within 6-10 feet of safety.  Most of these drownings happen because of a lack of basic water safety knowledge and skills.  If children possess even the most basic swimming skills, their risk of drowning decreases substantially.  Learning the basic skills outlined in these lesson plans builds a sense of accomplishment in children and helps prevent drownings.

Group Swim Lessons

Weekday and Weekend Lessons will meet once a week     FEE:  $28.00/Member  $54.00/Access Members              

Water Acclimation – Starfish   Each group is limited to 5.  Ages 3 years and up.  This class increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. 

Water Movement – Turtles  Each group is limited to 5.  Ages 3 years and up.  This class encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

Water Stamina – Stingrays  Each group is limited to 5.  Ages 3 years and up.  This class develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.

Stroke Introduction – Barracudas   Each group is limited to 5.  Ages 3 years and up.  This class introduces basic stroke technique in front and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Stroke Development – Sharks   Each group is limited to 6.  Ages 4 and up.  This class introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke.

Stroke Mechanics – Dolphins  Each group is limited to 6.  Ages 4 and up.  This class refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Home School Swim lessons- Ages 3 to 6 yrs old and 7 to 15yrs old  This class is designed to work on the being safe around the water, while working on stroke development. 



Ideal for people of all ages and swim abilities.  Lessons are 30 minutes in length.  Sign up at the front desk.

Youth Sports and Teen Programs


Tumble Tots- 

Tumbling is a great activity to teach your child balance, patience, coordination and much more.  We learn the fundamentals of tumble, while having fun and making friends. Tumble Tots is open to boys and girls.

Ages 3-6

Cost: $25/Members. $50/Access Members

Mondays- 5:30-6:15pm

Preschool Sports and Play- Developmentally appropriate introductory program for kids. This program prepares children and their parents for organized sports programs without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Children learn the fundamentals and beginning of different sports each week.  Parents are encouraged to participate and learn along side their child. Parents and children who are participating must bring a clean pair of tennis shoes for this program. there will be time for playing games and free time.

Ages 3-6

Cost: $25/Members $50/Access Members

Thursdays- 6:30-7:15pm

 Homeschool Gym and Swim- Do you want your homeschooled child to get physically active and make some new friends?Our Homeschool Swim & Gym Program provides an opportunity for local, homeschooled children to come to the Y once a week to develop healthy habits, make new friends, and enjoy new forms of exercise and games! We focus on teaching the fundamental skills and rules of the game while instilling the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. 

Ages- 5 (kindergarten)- 18

Cost: $25/Members $50/Access Members- Non Members
