CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Please understand that construction is NOT completely finished in our facility and will not be for several months.  Unfortunately, due to construction delays the following areas will not be ready to welcome you back:

Family Locker Rooms – expected by August 1.

Educational Kitchen - expected by August 1.

Café Spaces (Coffe Amor and NourishU) - expected by August 1.

SplashPad – will be ready for the 2021 season.

MEMBERSHIP

All held (holds) drafts will automatically restart on July 15, 2020.  

The Wapakoneta Family YMCA will not be accepting guest passes until further notice.  

The Wapakoneta Family YMCA will ONLY be accepting membership reciprocity from the following Ys to ensure our members have access to our facilities:

  • Lima YMCA
  • Hardin County YMCA
  • Putnam County YMCA
  • Sidney-Shelby County YMCA
  • Dayton YMCAs (including Auglaize-Mercer)

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, most YMCAs are not participating in Nationwide Reciprocity. Before visiting another YMCA, we strongly suggest you call to get their restrictions.

We have done our best to navigate these guidelines with the protection of staff and members at the forefront of all decisions.  Thank you for your patience. 

What You Need to Know

What Should I Bring?

  • Please bring a mask (required for those ages 10 and above), your own workout towel and water bottle.
  • We recommend you come dressed to work out as well, to minimize the number of people in locker rooms.
  • Your own basketball, etc. for use in the gyms. Balls will not be provided.

What Areas are Open and Closed?

  • Open:
    • Wellness Center – limited to 78 occupants at one time.
    • Studios – class sizes limited to 15 participates to allow for social distancing. Any equipment used must be sanitized by YMCA staff after use.
    • Child Watch/Youth Gym – limited to 9 kids and 1 staff – first come, first serve. In order to promote social distancing, staff will use both spaces.
    • Gymnasium:
      • Open Gym Guidelines:
        • Bring own basketball.
        • Six-feet social distance must be maintained between individuals except when on the court of play.
        • Physical contact is only permitted within the rules of the game during competitive play.
        • No congregating before or after games is permitted.
        • Pickleball is permitted but participants must follow social distancing guidelines while waiting. Equipment must be sanitized after each use by YMCA staff.
      • Locker rooms/Showers (every third locker will be available and YMCA staff will sanitize every two hours and mark on cleaning log in areas). Showers are to be used for entering/exiting the pool only. 
      • Pool – limited to 2 people per lane, or if you are in a class you should observe social distancing guidelines. Open swim participants should maintain social distancing guidelines for deck access and while in the pool. No furniture will be available on deck. Any equipment used must be sanitized by YMCA staff.
        • Water fitness classes are limited to 15 participants. Any equipment used must be placed in designated bins for sanitation.
      • Climbing Wall – limited to 2 participants at a time. All equipment will be sanitized by YMCA staff after each use.
    • Suspended Indefinitely: Saunas, towel service, hot tub, guest passes, furniture/seating areas, water fountains (except bottle fillers) and self-serve coffee stations.

OTHER IMPACTS:

Due to COVID-19, please see the additional steps that are required for your safety and security:

  • All members age 10 and up are required to wear a face mask.  You do not need to be wearing a face mask while actively exercising.  Face masks must be worn on the climbing wall (ages 10 and above).  They do not need to be worn in the pool.
  • All members will be required to wash/sanitize their hands when entering and exiting the facility.
  • All members will be required to scan/check in.  In an effort to protect staff, we will have a self-scanner.  Please bring your scan card.  if you don't have one, then we will have a sign-in sheet and would ask you sanitize the pen after use.
  • All members must stay 6 feet away from another person.  Machines will be set up to facilitate this rule.
  • We know many people come to the Y for socialization, but in order to follow the guidelines, we would ask that after you finish your workout you immediately exit the facility; additionally, we ask that you keep socialization to a minimum and stay at least 6 feet away from another person at all times.
  • All machines/equipment must be wiped down after each use. We will provide sanitizing wipes or solution at every piece of equipment.
  • If you, or a member of your family, is feeling sick, we would ask that you not visit the facilities.

Staff Expectations:

  • All staff will be required to wear masks.  Lifeguards will not be wearing masks while guarding.  Fitness instructors will not be wearing masks during active teaching during class.
  • Incoming staff will have their temperature taken by outgoing staff or leadership staff.
  • Staff who are feeling sick, or whose family members are sick, will be required to stay home.
  • Staff must wash hands or use sanitizer frequently.
  • Staff will be cleaning the facility on an increased schedule.
  • The facility will undergo a deep clean and sanitization every 24-hours.

Programs:

In-person, phone and non-member registration will begin on Saturday, July 11.

Summer Day Camp:

Summer Day Camp started on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Harvest Baptist Church.  Due to restrictions in ratios and staffing levels, space will be extremely limited.  To register for Day Camp, please email jboyer@wapakymca.org or click here.

We will work as hard as we can to accept new registrations as quickly as we can. Please be patient and understanding.  We know this may mean you will have to make tough choices, but we have to follow the rules and ensure that we can provide care based on safety and our licensing guidelines.

Fall Child Care:

Fall Child Care will start when school is back in session in August.

Land Group Fitness:

All land group fitness will restart on Monday, July 20.  Registration for programs will begin for members on Monday, July 6.  You can register on our website, our app, or by emailing us:  ldavis@wapakymca.org.  Class sizes will be limited.

Aquatics:

Private swim lessons will be allowed to resume at the Holiday Inn in Wapakoneta on June 1.  This will be at the discretion of the swim lesson instructor.  We are removing all expiration dates on private swim lessons purchased after March 1, 2019.

Pickleball will restart at the Y when we reopen in July. Pickleball players are welcome to use our equipment at a location of their choosing.

 

Wipe Down Equipment:  Use the cleaning materials provided. Wipe equipment before and after your workout.

Keep your distance:  Respect all signs regarding social distancing.  Stay at least 6 feet away from others whenever possible.

Expect Reduced capacity:  At times of full capacity, you will be asked to wait in a designated area until space is available.

Wear your mask: Required (while not actively exercising) for those ages 10 and above.

Stay home if you’re sick:  CDC and state guidelines encourage seniors and other vulnerable populations to stay home.
