See you Soon!

Thank you for your patience and prayers over the last few months. While these have been trying times for our community and our nation, your commitment to your YMCA and our mission has been heartwarming.  Thank you!

We are excited to announce a few key dates (these are addressed in more detail below):

  • Tuesday, May 26, 2020 - 5:00 AM - Wellness Center reopens from 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM every day.
  • Saturday, July 11, 2020 - Grand Opening!  More details to come!

While we are excited to reopen, construction will impact the Wellness Center in June.  We had hoped to only be closed at the end, but COVID-19 has impacted the timeline and everyone's life!  We would ask that you please be patient with us as we walk this path together.  Please remember at the end, we will have the best small-town YMCA in the country.

Construction is not the only thing impacting our operations.  The Governor's Office has given us guidelines and mandatory actions in order to re-open.  One will notice these guidelines applied under each section, and their impact on your experience at the Y, described below.

The documents that we are following from the Governor's Office can be accessed here:

Gym Guidelines

Pool Guidelines

Child Care Guidelines

Day Camp Guidelines

We have done our best to navigate these guidelines with the protection of staff and members at the forefront of all our decisions. Thank you for your patience.

Construction Updates

Construction on the YMCA has been continuing on schedule for the past few months.  The end is near and the final timeline has not been impacted. The Y hopes reopen our full facilities (where allowed by the Governor) on July 11, 2020.  As we get closer, we will communicate what accommodations will need to be made and any impacts from COVID-19.

Starting May 26, only the Wellness Center will reopen.  Construction continues to impact the natatorium (pool), locker rooms, gymnasium and studios. These all will remain closed when we reopen on May 26.  Again, the full facility should reopen, including these parts, on July 11, 2020.

Unfortunately, due to construction, the Wellness Center will need to close again on Saturday, June 13 at 11:59 am until we reopen on July 11. We need time to take down some walls in this space, replace flooring and bring in the new equipment.

If your membership is on hold, you will not be able to access the Wellness Center, or use reciprocity, until July 11. For more information, please see the details in the "Membership" section below.

Again, we always knew construction would impact this space, but no one could have anticipated the displacement of services from COVID-19.

Unfortunately, we do not anticipate the Splash Pad opening in 2020.

All held (holds) drafts will automatically restart on July 15, 2020.  If your membership is currently on hold, you will not have access to the YMCA until July 11, 2020, nor will you be able to use other Ys through reciprocity.

While the Wellness Center is closed, and until we reopen, your membership will allow you to have access to the following local YMCA systems:

  • Lima YMCA
  • Hardin County YMCA
  • Putnam County YMCA
  • Sidney-Shelby County YMCA
  • Dayton YMCAs (including Auglaize-Mercer)

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, other YMCAs are not participating in Nationwide Reciprocity. Before visiting another YMCA, we strongly suggest you call to get their restrictions.

Again, in order to use these Ys during this time, you will need to have your membership off hold.

As a reminder, membership dues pay for the month ahead.  Therefore, even though we are still closed for half of July, your draft on July 15 covers from July 15 through August 14.

If you wish to put your membership on hold, take off hold, cancel or ask for a refund from your May or June draft, please email us at or click here.

Also, remember the Wapakoneta Family YMCA is here for you and your family. If you cannot afford your membership and wish to keep it, we offer Financial Assistance.  To download an application, please click here.

Wellness Center Operations under COVID-19

The Wellness Center at the Wapakoneta Family YMCA will reopen on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 5:00 AM.  Due to workforce issues and for the safety of our staff and members we will not be returning to 24-hour operation until July 2020.  The Wellness Center will be open from 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM every day of the week until we close at 11:59 am on Saturday, June 13, 2020.  Due to COVID-19, please see the additional steps that are required for your safety and security:

  • The occupancy of the Wellness Center will be 60 people.  This does not include the temporary rehab section currently being used by Mercy Health.
  • All members will be required to wash/sanitize their hands when entering and exiting the facility.
  • All members will be required to scan/check in.  In an effort to protect staff, we will have a self-scanner.  Please bring your scan card.  if you don't have one, then we will have a sign-in sheet and would ask you sanitize the pen after use.
  • All members must stay 6 feet away from another person.  Machines will be set up to facilitate this rule.
  • We know many people come to the Y for socialization, but in order to follow the guidelines, we would ask that after you finish your workout you immediately exit the facility; additionally, we ask that you keep socialization to a minimum and stay at least 6 feet away from another person at all times.
  • We will not be offering towel service, lost and found, coffee, socializing/furniture area and only the automatic bottle filler will work on the drinking fountain.
  • All machines/equipment must be wiped down after each use. We will provide sanitizing wipes or solution at every piece of equipment.
  • If you, or a member of your family, is feeling sick, we would ask that you not visit the facilities.
  • You are not required to wear a mask; however, it is recommended.  Staff will be wearing masks and gloves for their and your protection.
  • The Child Watch will not be open.
  • Fitlinxx/Activelinxx will not be available.

All of these items are subject to change. Please call the YMCA (419-739-9622) with any questions.

We will do our best to continue to offer the best programs around while protecting staff and member safety and health.

Summer Day Camp:

Summer Day Camp will start on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Harvest Baptist Church.  Due to restrictions in ratios and staffing levels, space will be extremely limited.  To register for Day Camp, please email or click here.

We will work as hard as we can to accept new registrations as quickly as we can. Please be patient and understanding.  We know this may mean you will have to make tough choices, but we have to follow the rules and ensure that we can provide care based on safety and our licensing guidelines.

Pandemic/Fall Child Care:

We will be ceasing our Pandemic Child Care on Friday, May 29, 2020. Pandemic families can register for Day Camp.

Fall Child Care will start when school is back in session in August.

Land Group Fitness:

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions placed on us by the Governor's office and taking into account our staff's wishes, we will not be restarting land group fitness classes until we re-open in July.

As we get closer to July, we will update with more information and registration instructions.

Water Group Fitness:

Unfortunately, due to limited access to facilities, we are unable to offer water group fitness classes until we reopen in July.

As we get closer to July, we will update with more information and registration instructions.

Private swim lessons will be allowed to resume at the Holiday Inn in Wapakoneta on June 1.  This will be at the discretion of the swim lesson instructor.  We are removing all expiration dates on private swim lessons purchased after March 1, 2019.

Group swim lessons will not resume until we reopen in July.

As we get closer to July, we will update with more information and registration instructions.

Youth/Adult Sports and Teen Camps:

We are postponing all our youth sports and teen camps until July 2020.  As we get closer to July we will update our schedules and release guidelines for the protection of staff and participants.

Pickleball will restart at the Y when we reopen in July. Pickleball players are welcome to use our equipment at a location of their choosing.
